Springtime Cleaning List Your Must Not Miss

Springtime Cleaning List Your Must Not Miss
We all have those chores that feel like were constantly doing them. But I have a surprising list of things you don’t really need to do that often (sometimes up to a year). Even though not cleaning things for a year seems a tad bit disgusting, it actually is okay with a few things.
In fact, it is actually okay with ten common household chores that may be getting done more often than they need to.

1.    Curtains, Drapes, and Shades

Curtains, drapes, and shades can be cleaned once a year. Why should they be cleaned, they hand vertically? Well, even though they are hanging vertically, they still dust as well as odor molecules. Maybe they attract less of them but they still should be cleaned once a year.
When taking down these items ensure that the instructions are being followed closely. Certain materials can only be washed a certain way.

2.    Gutters

If a person has gutters that are clogged it can cause moisture damage to roofs and even cause leaks on the interior. Gutters are best to be cleaned in the fall when all the leaves are off the trees so that the gutters are going to be clear until next fall.

3.    Fireplace/Chimney

Once winter has been a thing of the past until the next year, it is important that fireplaces and chimneys are cleaned. Ensure that everything in the fireplace is cold and use a vacuum to pick up the ashes. Use distilled white vinegar to clean the interior of the fireplace. This will also help remove smoke odors.

4.    Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor furniture should be cleaned once a year if regular maintenance has been kept up. This means that stains have been removed once they happen. The best time to clean is early spring when bringing the furniture out of winter storage.
Wicker, plastic, and even wood can be cleaned with soap and warm water. If there are stains use a soft brush to help remove them. Then simply spray with the hose and let sit out to dry.

5.    Carpet

Once summer has come to an end and most activities will take place indoors, it is important that carpets are cleaned. This can be done using a rented carpet shampooer or even hiring professionals to clean the carpets in the home.

6.    Mattress

Mattresses are used nightly and can collect dust mites, body oils, dead skin, and simply become dirty. This is even true if a mattress cover is being used. That is why it is important to clean it at least once a year.
To clean a mattress, vacuum the top very well and do not forget the sides. This does also include box springs as well. If the mattress has stains use a dish detergent mixed with water and a soft brush to remove the stain. To rinse use a cloth that has plain water.
Make sure the mattress is fully dry when putting the bedding back on. If need be, use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. However, avoid using too much heat to avoid damage.

7.    Cabinets, Drawers, and Pantry

Once a year, the kitchen cabinets, drawers, and pantry should be cleaned. To do this simply take out all the materials inside the cabinets and wipe down the shelves. This is a great time to look at the items in the cabinets before putting them back. If they do not have a match or haven't been used, donate them or throw them away depending on their condition.

8.    Linen Closet

Once a year the linen closet should be gone through and cleaned. This includes removing all linens and wiping the shelves down and removing any cobwebs. Before putting the linens back, ensure they are clean. If they are not being used donate them.

9.    Garage, Basement, Attic

These areas should be done once a year. Keep in mind these areas are not expected to be spotless. However, they should be dusted and cobwebs taken down. Also, during the cleaning moistures should be checked for as well.

10. Documents and Files

January is a great time to organize files because it will prepare a person for tax season. Making it easier to locate the necessary documents needed.
