How To Fix A Stinky Sink

How To Fix A Stinky Sink
Admit it, we all walk into our kitchen at some point and are hit with a wall of stench.
We often do not realize this smell is not our garbage or recycling, but our sinks instead.
I’ll tell you how to clean your sink so that it does not stink any longer.

1. Boiling Water

Sometimes your sink is just not happy and all it needs is boiling water to flush it out. Simply boil a pot of water and put it down your drain. This will help flush any leftover foods away that are rotting in the drain. Remember, the hotter the water, the more it will kill bacteria. This is the first step that should be taken when fighting odors from a sink.

2. Baking Soda

We use baking soda to keep things fresh, so why not use it to keep our sinks fresh. For this, all you need to do is put a heaping spoonful down the sink. Then, all you would need to do is flush it with hot water. When the soda is flushed down the drain, it takes all the nasty odors with it.

3. Citrus Rinds

We all usually toss out our citrus rinds, however, we shouldn’t be. These rinds are amazing at eliminating odors. You simply toss these down the sink and turn your water on. Then, you turn your garbage disposal on and you are grinding your way to a fresh-smelling sink. This is more of a natural remedy to help the kitchen compared to harsh chemicals.

4. Distilled White Vinegar

This cleans a lot of items and it makes your food taste better. So, why not use it to clean your drain. This liquid is acidic but only mildly which makes it a great natural cleaning alternative. The scent that vinegar has will overpower the nasty smell in the sink and leave it smelling fresh.

5. Baking Soda & Vinegar

We all know that this combination makes a volcano. However, did you know that this chemical reaction does wonders for cleaning? All you need to do is put a half of a cup of baking soda in your drain and then put your vinegar down it. Let this reaction keep occurring for about twenty minutes. After twenty minutes, put hot water down the drain to flush the items out.

6. Baking Soda & Lemon

Lemons are a great way to leave a place smelling nice and clean. However, when you mix lemon with baking soda both of the items have antibacterial and odor trapping qualities to make your sink smell better. Simply pour a little baking soda down the drain and lemon juice.

7. Borax

Borax is a great solution for cleaning a lot of items. To use this method, simply put three tablespoons of borax into the disposal with ice to help disinfect the drain. Once you do this, let the borax rest and put lemon juice down the drain.

8. Ice & Salt

A lot of people do not realize that ice and salt are great at knocking out stinky situations. Ice will clean the garbage disposal and salt will scrub at it. The salt is a natural disinfectant that cleans any bacteria from food that is leftover in the drain.
With these tips, you are ready to tackle that funky odor. To keep the odors from returning, find a method that you like and do it occasionally. This will help you not have to walk into a cloud of stink when you enter your kitchen.
